Welcome to the Avid Reader!

On Friday, January 20th, author Julie Guthman will be at The Avid Reader in downtown Davis to discuss her new book Weighing In. You can find out more by reading the article in which she was interviewed by Mark Bittman, or listening to her on NPR or the UC Press podcast.

On Friday, January 27th, local authors Robin Datel, Dennis Dingemans, and Thomas Krabacher will be at The Avid Reader in downtown Davis to discuss their new book Woodland. Woodland is part of the Arcadia Publishing Images of America series and is a detailed pictorial history of Woodland. The authors will present a slide show, followed by a question and answer session. After the event they will be available to sign books.

For most eBooks you will pay the same amount buying from us as you will buying from Amazon or Barnes and Noble, so support your local independent booksellers and give us a shot for your eBook needs! Need good books for your reader age 9-12? The Avid Reader at The Tower now has a complete collection of Newbery award winners dating back to the 1920s. The Newbery Award is given annually to the book considered the best in chidren's literature.

The Avid Reader regularly features local authors for readings, booksignings and discussions. Davis is home to fantasy writer Kim Stanley Robinson, Max Byrd, the author of the critically acclaimed Jefferson and Jackson novels, best-selling fiction/thriller writer, John Lescroart, and Ted Puntillo, creator of the popular children's book, The Toads of Davis: A Saga of a Small Town, to name just a few.

Of course, we can special order titles by local favorites, but our shelves typically carry the most recent publications by Davis writers.
